Dr. Lyu has a very unique combination of expertise in cosmetic dentistry and complex implant dentistry.His certificate in prosthodontics specialty, received in Columbia University, not only allows him to diagnose and plan treatment for patients in such depth where all factors determining the longevity of dental restorations are considered and applied to the treatment, but also Dr. Lyu was fortunate to be trained in all aspects of implant surgeries under teachings of world-famous Dr. Dennis Tarnow for a full 3 years of prosthodontics residency. 

It is truly a unique dental practice to have complex surgical cases planned and executed by one master mind, instead of having patients go back and forth between different specialty providers, which sometimes may cause communication issues and compromise results in complex cases.

Cosmetic & esthetic dentistry is another expertise that Dr. Lyu comes second to none. His understanding of tooth morphology has always been one of the biggest strengths since dental school years where he had won multiple esthetic-case awards as well as achieving the highest scores on most practical exams. Not to mention that he also finished and passed the patient-based national licensing board exam at noon before anyone else when the allowance of testing time was from 8AM to 5PM. 

But it is when he started doing more and more cosmetic smile make-over cases where he realized his observant eyes are what helped him to see details that others did not see, and they made all the difference in designing one’s smile. “Dexterity is important in dentistry, but gifted eyes are absolutely crucial in smile design because you cannot fabricate what you cannot see.” This realization led him to start a dental laboratory called, LAB AND ART dental studio back in March of 2018 where he created his own digital dental laboratory workflow.

Since then, he has spent tremendous time teaching and training his technicians to learn and adapt to his workflow. Today, his dental lab not only fabricates crowns and veneers for his patients but services 30+ dentists on their cosmetic and implant restorations. Dr. Lyu also helps all dentists who use his dental lab on treatment planning cosmetic and imp cases from simp to complex full mouth reconstruction. cases.

In 2021, Dr. Lyu was invited to become a board member of Greater New York Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. 

Twice a year, Dr. Lyu travels to Oaxaca, Mexico, working with the SOMA mission team to meet the dental needs of those who have no regular access to health care. He feels grateful for the opportunity to share his training, talents, and gifts with those who desperately need dental care.

It is his strong determination to start the mission work at his own office, Real Smile Dental, 4 times a year under an event called Dentistry by Grace.
